Sustainability Manager

Are you passionate about sustainability strategies? The Aerospace, Security and Defence Industries Association of Europe (ASD) is looking for a proactive and experienced sustainability manager to join our dynamic international team in Brussels.
About ASD
Our association represents the aerospace, security and defence industries in areas of common interest with the objective of promoting and supporting the competitive development of our sector. Within ASD, the sustainability work strand focuses on corporate social responsibility policies and the general sustainability reporting framework.
Position
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Sustainability and contribute to the work of the team by monitoring and analysing relevant EU and international policy and regulatory developments. The objective is to contribute to the development of common industry positions and to support the relevant ASD working groups organisation, outreach and advocacy plans.
Key areas of responsibility
Under the guidance of the Director of Sustainability, the Manager shall:
- Monitor, assess and report on relevant EU policies and political developments related to sustainability (industry sustainability reporting obligations and ESG (Environment, Social and Governance) policies, e.g. related to circular economy or product environmental footprint.
- To ensure consistency of policies, coordinate with other relevant working groups in the Association (both defence and aerospace).
- Develop ASD’s outreach and advocacy activities: contribute to the development of common industry positions based on members’ sustainability strategic agendas, their environmental regulatory compliance, ESG and due diligence reporting obligations.
- Support, coordinate and manage the working group responsible for corporate social responsibility/ sustainability, including preparation of (online and physical) meetings, produce agendas, minutes of meetings, be first point of contact for members of the group; ensure follow-up of activities between meetings.
- Establish and maintain regular contacts with relevant EU institutions and international stakeholders.
- Support and advise the Director of Sustainability.
Background and experience
- Master’s degree, preferably in European Affairs/International Relations or equivalent, with specialisation in sustainability/ESG or relevant equivalent (gained through academic or professional experience).
- Minimum five years of professional experience in relevant sustainability areas, environmental policies, ESG, responsible business conduct/business ethics and related EU/international frameworks; good understanding of the international sustainability policy and regulatory framework and of the EU sustainable finance framework (in particular the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and Taxonomy, Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive).
Skills and competences
- Robust knowledge of EU and international policies and legislation connected to sustainability and ESG.
- Thorough understanding of the EU legislative and decision-making processes.
- Precise, analytical and contextual thinking and political sensitivity.
- Strong organisational and excellent presentation skills.
- Capacity to learn fast, be flexible and think ahead.
- Proficiency in oral English; excellent drafting and editing skills.
- Good teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Digital literacy (very good internet research and Microsoft Office skills).
