Uniting against climate change
Explore how the European civil aviation industry is taking decisive action against climate change, aligning with global goals and committed to net-zero emissions by 2050
Climate change stands as a pivotal challenge for the civil aviation industry, calling for urgent action by industry, governments and civil society.
In alignment with global efforts, the civil aviation sector is committed to meeting the goals set by the Paris Agreement, an international treaty that aims to limit global warming to 1.5°C. The European Union has set the ambitious target of achieving climate neutrality by 2050.
Europe’s aviation sector is committed to reach net-zero carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by 2050. This plan – Destination 2050 – commits to net-zero emissions from all flights within and departing from the EU, UK, and EFTA regions by 2050.
It rests on four key areas: developing more efficient aircraft and engines; sustainable aviation fuels (SAFs); economic strategies that lead to reduced emissions; air traffic management and aircraft operations to improve fuel efficiency.
