A study published recently reveals the pivotal role that air transport, led by RwandAir, has played in propelling the nation's economic growth.
Tourism as a catalyst for economic prosperity
The tourism industry in Rwanda has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving into a major contributor to the country's GDP. In 2021 alone, the sector generated an impressive €238 billion in turnover, employing a staggering 879,000 individuals. The study underscores the sector's substantial growth, from contributing a mere 0.5% to the GDP in 1995 to a robust 17.2% in 2010. Today, tourism stands as the leading foreign exchange earner for Rwanda.
Central to this success story is RwandAir, the national carrier of Rwanda. Serving 18 destinations, RwandAir carried 600,000 passengers in 2015, a testament to its rapid growth and commitment to providing top-notch service.
